Homework Policy

Homework is a vital part of a student’s education, it not only helps give students extra practice but also teaches responsibly. Homework itself will not be graded, however it is a requirement for the class as there will be a short homework quiz after each assignment. In order for students to take the homework quiz they must have their homework completed. If the assignment is not finished, they will have to come in before school or after school to take the quiz once the homework it is complete. Students can take, and even retake homework quizzes any time before the unit test.

The 7th and 8th grade science teams are here to support your child and will have someone staying before and afterschool every day Monday - Thursday. This allows students to have one on one help to complete their work and receive support to help them deeply understand all materials and work towards mastery of the content.

Assessment Policy

There are two types of assessments in life and earth science.

Formative assessments:

Assignments, Labs and Quizzes are all examples of formative assessments. This work is created to help a student learn. All formative assessments can be redone for full credit anytime before or after school.

Summative Assessments:

Unit Tests: There will be 9 units of study throughout the year

~All students will be required to do test corrections and reflect on their incorrect responses and may earn up to 100% for completing the test correction form within one week of the original test date.

~ A test grade will not be entered into the grade book until test corrections are made.

Unit Projects: Most units will end with a comprehensive individual or group project

~3 points a day will be deducted from the overall project score for each day it is late for the first week.

After that, the highest score students can possibly earn is half credit.

~If a student is not satisfied with the score they earn. Projects can be redone for half of the points that are missed, but must be resubmitted within one week of when they receive their project grade.
